Finding Homes in Greenville, SC, for Pets (and Their People)

Last month, as I was working on the blog post about golf in Greenville, I was also planning to launch my first annual Christmas in July campaign for the Greenville Humane Society. As I worked closely with the wonderful staff and volunteers at Greenville Humane Society, I realized that we’re actually in the same business: finding homes in Upstate SC. They are searching for homes for pets, and I’m searching for homes for people. However, quite frequently, my clients are pet owners, too. They are searching for houses in Greenville that will suit their lifestyle, which includes their pets. Pet parents have very specific needs that can range from a large fenced yard for dogs to a screened porch for cats or a warm sunroom for reptiles. Homeowners may consider the viability of keeping backyard chickens, or whether the home is accessible for an elderly furry family member.

When I bought my home, I definitely had to think about taking Taco and Bailee for walks and whether my HOA allowed fenced yards. Finding a home in Greenville, SC, as a pet parent requires a lot of thought and an agent who understands any restrictions placed by municipalities and homeowners associations. Beyond that, it requires working with an agent who understands how important pets are. They are family members whose needs weigh as heavily as their people’s do. This has always been a focus for me, and I love it when a client comes to me with a unique set of requirements for their home search. I relish trying to find the perfect property that will work for them.

There are so many vital aspects of the overlap between home ownership and pet ownership to be examined, and this is a topic I feel invested in as a realtor and as a “dog mom.”  Many home buyers may not know what to look for, especially if they are new to Upstate SC, and many home sellers can emphasize their home or neighborhood pet-friendly features when marketing their Greenville, SC, home for sale.

In addition to addressing home ownership, there are countless organizations like Greenville Humane Society working to improve the lives of animals in Greenville, SC. Many of these are small, independent nonprofits that could use more visibility to help find homes for the pets they rescue. I’d like to feature those pet rescue organizations in Upstate SC and boost their mission and goals.

So stay tuned to my blog for future pet-friendly posts! Because, after all, finding homes in Greenville, SC, for pets (and their people), is exactly what I love to do!
