Greenville, SC Is a Golfer's Delight

Are you looking for a place to golf in Greenville, SC? Well, I’ve got you covered whether you want to practice your swing, watch the pros play, or just get out for a game of mini golf in Greenville. My family eats, sleeps, and breathes golf, so I am very aware of the Greenville golf scene!

Country Club Golf Courses in Greenville, SC

The Upstate is home to a number of great golf courses, many of them nestled into golf neighborhoods that were designed for those wanting to putt practically from their front porch. Offering great real estate with a side of golf, these neighborhoods should be on your list if you’re a golfer considering buying a home in Greenville.

Thornblade is a prestigious community of expansive luxury homes in Greer, SC. The course at the member-owned Thornblade Club was designed by Thomas Fazio, ASGCA, and opened in 1990. Set on 130 verdant acres, this golf course is home to the BMW Charity Pro-Am as well as the SCJGA Blade Junior Golf Classic. Club amenities include a Golf Pro Shop, professional instruction, a driving range and practice facility, handicap tracking, and programming for golfers of all ages.

A Greenville stalwart, the Greenville Country Club is situated in the heart of the desirable Augusta Road area. Greenville Country Club is an established pick for locals, with two nationally-recognized 18-hole private championship courses that are open year-round. The Chanticleer course was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. and consistently ranks as the top golf course in Upstate South Carolina. The Riverside course was originally laid out on a topographical map by famed course designer Tom Bendelow in 1920 and redesigned by architect Brian Silva in 2006.

A midcentury classic dating back to the 1950s, Green Valley Country Club was originally designed by George W. Cobb, ASGCA. New owners acquired the club in 2011 and have been making improvements since. Nestled against the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Green Valley lives up to its name.

George Cobb designed more than one course in Upstate SC. Holly Tree Country Club is the best place to golf in Simpsonville, SC. A double St. Andrews-style green serves finishing grounds on holes 9 and 18. In addition to a driving range, putting green, and chipping green; Holly Tree Country Club also offers a private skills area and short course. A robust Junior Golf Program provides fun for the whole family!

Paris Mountain Country Club was established in 1938 by J.P. Traynham, a well known golf leader in the Upstate of South Carolina. With a driving range, pro shop, and a scenic location on Paris Mountain, what more could you want?

Practice Your Golf Swing in Greenville, SC

Although it doesn’t look like much from the road, the busiest golf practice facility in the area is Haas Family Golf on Pelham Road. PGA Tour Champions pro Jay Haas welcomes all area golfers to his driving range and training facility. With a Pro Shop and lessons available for anyone looking to improve their swing, Haas Family Golf is the place to be.

Pelham Road is also home to the Greenville location of Top Golf. Although Top Golf is more of an entertainment complex than a serious training facility, it offers fun for everyone in a relaxed environment.

Other Golf Options in the Upstate

If you want to swing a club without a membership, Greenville has numerous public courses to meet every need. You can get in a few drives at 3’s 12-hole course, play through at The Preserve at Verdae, or enjoy the fairway at the Furman University golf course. There are also many other golf locations throughout the Upstate.

Mini Golf in Greenville, SC

Mini golf is making a comeback! If you’re looking for a fun outing for golfers and non-golfers alike, you can’t beat the hilarity that ensues when you couple the dynamics of golf with weird obstacles, optical illusions, and intentional misdirections.

Takeoff Mini Golf is a fantastic destination if you want to combine putting and plane-spotting. Situated next door to Greenville’s small-craft Downtown Airport, Takeoff Mini Golf has a fitting aviation theme and 18 holes of high-octane fun.

Frankie’s Fun Park, just off Woodruff Road in the heart of Greenville’s main shopping drag, offers mini golf among its many other diversions. With three courses, you can play one round or three for a fun day out. That’s 54 unique holes!

Group Therapy is mini golf with a twist; the pop-culture-themed course is indoors! Perfect for a rainy day or just a hot one, Group Therapy is the Top Golf analogue for mini golf. What’s more, you can try your hand at Axe Throwing, Duckpin Bowling, and more at this entertainment complex.

Finally, I can’t discuss golf in Greenville, SC without mentioning the annual BMW Charity Pro-Am tournament. It’s the highlight of the Greenville golf world as 160 Korn Ferry Tour pros are paired with 160 amateurs and celebrities.
